eVisas Explained: How to Prove Your UK Immigration Status

Oct 19
1 min read

Physical biometric residence permits have been replaced by eVisas, a digital record of your immigration status held in your UKVI account.

Creating your UKVI account

You need a UKVI account to view and use your eVisa. You create it online, verify your identity and link your passport.

Proving your status

  • Employers check your right to work with a share code

  • Landlords in England check your right to rent with a share code

  • Share codes are generated from the View and Prove service and are valid for a limited time

Travelling

Carriers check your status against the passport linked to your account. If you renew your passport, update your UKVI account before you travel.

Keeping your eVisa up to date

  • Add new passports

  • Update your contact details

  • Check that your name, date of birth and conditions are correct

If something is wrong

If your status shows incorrectly or you cannot access your account, contact the UKVI Resolution Centre. We can help with straightforward account and status issues.
