Skilled Worker Sponsorship for Business Owners
Self sponsorship is a term commonly used to describe an arrangement in which a UK business sponsors an eligible worker who also has an ownership interest in that business. It is not a separate visa category. The business must meet the sponsor licence requirements, and the applicant must independently meet the Skilled Worker requirements.
Business ownership does not guarantee a sponsor licence, a visa or settlement. We review the immigration work you require and explain the assistance we can provide before agreeing a retainer.
We assess the proposed business and immigration arrangements before accepting instructions. We assist only with work within our IAA authorisation and refer matters requiring specialist company, tax or higher-level immigration advice to an appropriately authorised professional.
How We Assess Your Enquiry
Business Assessment
We review the immigration aspects of your proposal. Company formation, corporate structuring and tax advice require separate advice from an appropriately qualified professional.
Sponsor Licence Application
We assess whether the proposed application falls within our authorisation. Where accepted, we assist with the application and supporting documents under an agreed written retainer.
Sponsorship Support
We assess the proposed role and the assistance requested. Any accepted work is limited to our authorisation and agreed retainer. Specialist or complex matters are referred to an appropriately authorised adviser.
Visa Application
Where the matter is straightforward and within our authorisation, we assist with your Skilled Worker application. We confirm the agreed work and fees in writing before starting.
Important Considerations
Business ownership does not remove sponsorship duties or visa conditions. Any future extension or settlement application depends on the requirements in force and the applicant’s circumstances at that time.
